What is reading, really?
it is listening.
he who reads well, listens well.
when reading was first invented, no one read silently. reading was aloud.
what is writing then?
it is thinking aloud.
when we simply think, it all goes on internally.
no one's the wiser.
often, not even the one doing the thinking.
why? well, thoughts get muddled up inside our heads. they need an outlet.
thinking needs to be out loud.
even talking to oneself helps.
but writing helps even more.
it is more precise, and more flowing.
Stephen King says that the whole thing about writing is telepathy.
invisible, unspoken thoughts travel from one mind through time and space, and take residence in another mind.
and once that thought gets in your head, it never leaves, does it?
you might agree with it, disagree with it, even build on it and modify it, but there it is.
and there's the power of writing.
there's your power.
to get your thoughts out into reality and then into other minds.

- Alpha Lim is a professional copywriter who would like nothing better than to see every man, woman and child writing their hearts out with pathos and flair for fun and profit. His idiosyncrasies include trying to say as much as possible in as few words as necessary, as can be seen all over his blog about copywriting and reflective writing at http://blog.passionista.net/
